Abstract

Trade sanctions imposed by industrialized countries on products made bychildren in developing countries are motivated by the assumptions that children work inexport industries and that such work harms them. We use binary logistic regressiontechniques to analyze the determinants of children’s work in the export and non-exportsectors of Bangladesh. Looking at all children, we find that the factors determiningwhether a child works in the export sector are being older, being a girl, living in an urbanarea, and having a less educated father.
